Hi, I’m April McDougald!
Self-discovery enthusiast, lover of slow living, hanging out with my family and living an intentional life.
I started out right where you are…
I was working full-time in the corporate haircare world, spending 40+ hours every week forcing myself to go in and do the work I no longer enjoyed, constantly waiting for someone or something to save me from my emotional burnout. I lacked boundaries, I had no clear vision of my future, I was stuck in the hustle culture and I was deeply depressed and hid behind my smile.
My panic attacks were taking over my daily life. I was destabilized by fear and grief and I was stuck in survival mode.
My body was guiding me to slow down but because I wasn’t familiar with processing my own emotions, I kept making the same unhealthy choices that left me feeling drained and incredibly sick.
I was GREAT at making sure everyone else’s needs were looked after, but I consistently neglected my own emotional well-being.
I was stuck on an emotional roller-coaster and I was days away from being admitted into the hospital.
I was tired of saying yes, when I should have said NO
I was tired of trips to walk in clinics due to my anxiety and panic attacks
I was tired of feeling drained and burnt out
I was tired of running away from my emotions
I was tired of the same patterns showing up
I immersed myself in studying my emotional intelligence and how it relates to my nervous system. I realized the importance of communicating with my emotions in the same caring and understanding way I communicated with my clients and customers. By approaching my emotions with love and compassion, I created a space where they could be acknowledged and validated.
I’m beyond excited to welcome you behind the scenes of my life, where I'll share with you the tools I use daily that took me from struggling with endless triggers, overwhelmed with anxiety and blaming everyone else for my problems to a life truly
LIVED + LOVED.
I am honoured to share with you some tools I use that help me when I feel triggered or anxious.
It is ultimately our responsibility to learn self-awareness. When you begin to gather information about yourself, especially your emotions and how they affect every aspect of your day, that information helps you to know how to take better care of yourself.
How we respond to our challenges, how we express our emotions, and how we interact with others is more than a gut reaction. They’re key skills we can use to make a difference, not only in our personal lives and relationships with others, but also how we carry ourselves and how we can learn to nurture our emotions.
I spent my entire life running away from grief and running away from the beautiful gift of our range of emotions... all of my true emotions, because I didn't know any different, until they knocked me flat on my ass and I had to face them.
I believe so much in bringing awareness to the present moment and becoming grounded and feeling safe, in the here and now, and out of our survival mode. I’m dedicated to showing you how to rediscover who you are, without fearing your emotions.
Now, triggers are a part of the emotional experience of this world. If you're human, you’ll get triggered. We all get triggered.
How you respond depends on your self-awareness skills and your ability to calm yourself before you react.
When you are being triggered, that information guides you towards the area of your life needing deeper self-reflection and self-awareness.
When you can learn to speak to your emotions, you can gain self-mastery in your life. It is so important that you understand the reasons why you do the things that you do because of an inner drive to change the way you feel.
Healing happens when you’re triggered and you’re able to move through the pain, the pattern, and the story, and walk your way to a different ending.
The body remembers what the mind forgets.
A moment of self-compassion can change your entire day. A string of such moments can change the course of your life.
My wheelhouse is simplicity and teaching you WHY something works. I believe in guiding you to your own resources, and your own powerhouse found within.
